Can You Get Ketchup Out Of Clothes?
Are you all too familiar with the feeling of accidentally spilling ketchup on your clothes before a job interview, a night out, or your grandparent’s birthday? Don’t panic just yet – there might be a few tricks you can try to get ketchup out of clothes!
1. Act Quickly
Ketchup can be quite difficult to remove, so it’s important to act quickly to avoid a permanent stain. If the item of clothing can withstand the heat, hold it up to a running tap of hot water so that the ketchup flows away from the fabric.
2. Soak and Scrape
If the fabric isn’t suitable for hot water, then you can try soaking and scraping the ketchup off. Fill a washing tub with warm water and some mild laundry detergent or a stain remover product and stir until it’s sudsy. Soak the garment in the solution for around an hour, then use a soft brush to gently scrape the ketchup away without damaging the fabric.
3. Use Vinegar and Salt
Mixing equal parts of vinegar and salt can help loosen up the ketchup, allowing it to be more easily removed. Simply, spread the mixture over the stain, leave it for a few minutes and rinse it off.
4. Try Other Stain Removers
If you’re still struggling to remove the stain, there are many stain remover products available which can help, such as:
- Lemon Juice – apply lemon juice and water to the stained area, leave for 20 minutes and rinse off
- Dish Soap – mix a few drops of dish soap with a cup of warm water and rub into the stained area. Rinse off after 20 minutes.
- Baking Soda and Hydrogen Peroxide – Mix together equal parts of baking soda and hydrogen peroxide and rub into the stained area. Rinse off after 20 minutes.
At the end of the day, prevention is always the best way to deal with a ketchup stain – so be aware at all times and keep the napkins handy!
