Bugs That Bite Through Clothing
Many people think that only mosquitoes can bite through clothing. Surprisingly, there are more types of bugs that can bite through the fabric of your clothing and cause discomfort. Here are some of the bugs that can bite through clothing:
Bedbugs
Bedbugs can feed on any exposed part of your skin, regardless of the fabric of your clothing. The tiny insects can live in upholstery, mattresses and clothing, so you’re likely to encounter them in hotels or dormitories.
Gnats
Gnats are small insects which can bite humans and animals. Sea gnats, in particular, become particularly active during the warmer months and can easily bite through clothing.
Fleas
Fleas are very small insects that feed on human and animal blood. They generally live on animals, but can make a home in your clothing.
Chiggers
Chiggers are tiny insects found mainly in grass, which can penetrate through clothing and cause severe itching.
Ticks
Ticks are some of the most common bugs that can bite through clothing. Their bites can cause various illnesses, like Lyme disease, so it is important to take steps to protect yourself from their bites.
Preventative Measures
To protect yourself from any of these bugs, there are a few steps you can take:
- Wear long-sleeved shirts and pants when going outdoors. Wear light colors as possible to make certain bugs easier to spot.
- Avoid areas with tall grass or other vegetation. Ticks and other bugs are usually found in these areas.
- Check for ticks after spending time outdoors. Pay special attention to the area around your feet and ankles.
- Wash your clothes regularly. If you have been in an area where ticks and other bugs are present, it is important to wash your clothes at the highest temperature possible.
By taking the necessary precautions, you can help protect yourself from bug bites and the illnesses they can cause.
