When to Donate Clothes
Donating clothes is a great way to extend the life of our wardrobes and give less fortunate individuals a chance to look fashionable as well. But, knowing when to donate clothes can be confusing. To help you better understand when and what to donate, we’ve put together a list of tips that will have you well on your way to simplifying your wardrobe and making donations regularly.
1. Rotate Your Clothing
It’s a good idea to evaluate your wardrobe quarterly and rotate your clothing to ensure that you are wearing the items you most love. One way to do this is by storing off-season clothing until the appropriate season and donating any clothing items that you no longer need.
2. When Clothing No Longer Fits
If you’ve gone up or down a size, it is time to consider donating your clothing to those in need. Even if you slim down or go up a size a couple of times in a season, remember that someone else can use the clothes and look good in them too.
3. Get Rid of Duplicates and Extras
If you’ve found yourself with multiple clothing items of the same type, consider donating the extras. For example, if you have three black blazers, consider donating the extra one.
4. Unwanted Gifts or Impulse Buys
We’ve all made impulse buys or received clothing items from well-meaning friends or family. Donating these items can be a great decision and free up some space in your closet.
5. Clothes That Have Not Been Worn in 6-12 Months
If there are some items of clothing that have been in your closet for over a year and have not been worn, it is time to consider donating them.
Now that you know the best times to donate clothes, it’s time to get started. Donating our clothes brings more life, use and style to the clothes we don’t wear and helps those in need look their best too.
